Anxiety & Depression
I often refer to anxiety and depression as the two headed monster. My clients regularly describe phases of feeling keyed up, on edge, worrying about the future, and running on adrenaline (anxiety), to exhaustion, loss of enjoyment in activities they normally enjoy, loneliness, and isolation (depression). In today’s culture, you likely have suffered from one of these conditions or know someone who has. I work with clients to identify underlying potential sources of anxiety and depression, while focusing and building upon your strengths and resources. I tailor treatment to each individual client, so my approach may differ from person to person. You aren’t alone, and you don’t need to feel this way forever.
Grief
Losing someone you love is an inevitable and ubiquitous part of life, yet somehow it often ends up feeling like no one could understand your unique pain. In addition, death isn’t the only way people experience grief. Grief comes up in the loss of a job, a breakup or divorce, losing a future you once dreamed about, and generally life just not going the way you thought it would. I often hear women invalidate themselves by measuring their grief against others - whatever their situation is isn’t “as bad” as the next person’s. In therapy, I create space for you to simply be wherever you are in your grief, and to reduce self-judgment while increasing curiosity and self-compassion.
